By the 23rd, volunteers from the Shitsura district of Monzenmachi, Wajima City had created an artwork using floats that had washed ashore on the local coast and began exhibiting it at the detour parking Shichiura. 23 colorfully drawn frogs and anime characters with a wish for traffic safety are displayed to emphasize the importance of beautifying the coast. The area around the facility is popular with residents and drivers as a place overlooking the magnificent Sea of Japan, and volunteers wish to “brighten the atmosphere sunk by the corona.” Local volunteers such as Takeshi Nagaoka (73) and Kaoru Sasaki (73), the representatives of Detour Parking Shichiura, worked on artworks using floats. I used paint to paint ” Doraemon ” and ” Anpanman “, using the floats of 10 to 40 cm in diameter collected as wreckage on the beach. A handmade sign that says “Safe frog” and “Is careful of the new corona” is also installed in the parking lot to alert the driver. Since the facility opened in 2016, sales of special products such as freshly picked vegetables, wild plants, and seafood such as turban shells have become popular. Golden Week holidays many tourists visited the area, but due to the spread of corona infection, they were forced to close indefinitely from the 12th. Mr. Nagaoka and his colleagues were disappointed that the bustle had disappeared from the facility, which had been popular as a place of relaxation for the residents of the village. In order to cheer up the area as much as possible, I came up with the idea of working on art production using the drifting garbage that was voluntarily collected on the nearby beach. On the coast of the Shichiura district facing Moon Bay, several tons of garbage is washed ashore annually, centering on fishing gear such as floats and nets that are thought to belong to foreign ships. Residents and the city clean it regularly, but in the winter, a large amount of garbage is launched every year, which has been a source of trouble. Mr. Nagaoka said, “I want to make effective use of marine debris and raise awareness of the beautification of the coast.” Mr. Sasaki expected, “I want my child to smile when I see the cute work.”
