Microsoft is testing an updated version of the Microsoft Store for Windows 11, available to Windows Insiders on the Canary and Dev channels. The redesigned store introduces a new Downloads tab, which aims to streamline app management and improve user experience.
In the previous Microsoft Store layout, app management, and updates were handled through the Library tab. The new design separates these functions by adding a Downloads section above the Library tab. This section provides a comprehensive list of all installed apps, both free and paid and features a prominent “Get Updates” button for bulk updating or individual app updates through a three-dot menu.
The three-dot menu in the Downloads tab offers various options, including sharing the app, writing a review, rating the app, pinning it to the taskbar, and viewing release notes. These features provide users with additional control and convenience for managing their applications.
The Library tab has been restructured to offer a broader view of apps. It now displays both installed and purchased-but-not-installed apps. Users can see the installation date, switch between different app categories (such as games or films), sort and filter lists, and use a search function to find specific apps.
The new Microsoft Store layout, with its distinct Downloads and Library sections, is designed to make app management more efficient and user-friendly. This separation helps users keep better track of their apps and updates, improving the overall experience on Windows 11.
