David Holz, the CEO of Midjourney, has announced that the AI image generation tool will soon be available for free to all users. Midjourney began as a Discord bot in 2022 and evolved into a standalone website in 2023, where users could input descriptive prompts to generate AI images. Initially, the web tool was only accessible to users who had created over 10,000 images on Discord.
The new update will allow anyone to use Midjourney by logging in with a Discord or Google account. Free users will be able to generate up to 25 images before needing to upgrade to a paid subscription. This change aims to make Midjourney more accessible to a broader audience.
Midjourney offers four subscription tiers. The Basic plan, at $10 per month, provides 3.3 fast GPU hours without any relax time. The Standard plan, costing $30 per month, includes 15 fast GPU hours and unlimited relax time.
The Pro plan, priced at $60 per month, offers 30 fast GPU hours, unlimited relax time, and the option for stealth mode, which ensures image privacy. The Mega plan, at $120 per month, provides 60 fast GPU hours, unlimited relax time, and stealth mode.
Each subscription plan allows users to earn extra GPU time by rating generated images. Additionally, users can enjoy a 20 percent discount by committing to an annual subscription.
