Several retro gaming hardware companies have recently suspended shipments to the United States in response to the ongoing tariff situation under former President Trump’s policies. Notably, Retrotink and Anbernic have both made announcements regarding the temporary halt of U.S. shipments, citing concerns over the potential delays and financial implications caused by the tariffs. Retrotink’s decision, effective April 28, and Anbernic’s updated shipping policies, have caused significant disruption in the availability of these products in the U.S. market.
Retrotink and Anbernic Suspend U.S. Shipments Amid Uncertainty Over Tariff Implementation
Retrotink, a leading name in retro gaming hardware, explained its decision to suspend U.S. shipments due to a lack of clarity on how tariffs will be applied beginning May 2. CEO Mike Chi emphasized that while there is still some reserve stock available in the U.S., orders would not be processed after the cutoff date. Despite the uncertainty, Chi expressed hope that the situation would eventually resolve, although he admitted that there is no clear timeline for when or how that might happen.

Anbernic, another prominent retro gaming company, followed suit with a similar announcement, adjusting its shipping policies to reflect the changing U.S. tariff environment. The company revealed that, starting immediately, it would halt all shipments from China to the United States. Anbernic advised U.S. customers to consider purchasing products shipped from their U.S. warehouse, which remain unaffected by the tariffs and continue to be available for purchase without import duties.
Temporary Shipping Halts Expected to End Once Tariff Situation Stabilizes in Gaming Sector
Both companies, however, indicated that these shipping halts are not expected to be permanent. Anbernic assured customers that it would provide updates as soon as it receives more information on import duties, and they would publish a revised shipping policy once the situation stabilizes. This sentiment was echoed by Retrotink, which remains hopeful that the suspension will eventually end when more clarity is provided regarding tariff collection procedures.
The retro gaming sector is not the only one affected by the new tariffs. Larger gaming companies have also been impacted, with the Nintendo Switch 2 remaining at its original price, but its accessories and related products experiencing price hikes due to increased tariffs.
Companies like Razer have paused shipments to the United States, and others are either adjusting their pricing structures or seeking ways to navigate the shifting trade policies. The gaming industry as a whole is grappling with uncertainty as companies weigh their options and try to adjust to the changing economic conditions.
