Apple Vision Pro’s Surprising Durability Revealed Through Outrageous Tests

Apple Vision Pro

The Apple Vision Pro headset, a mixed-reality device priced at a hefty $3,499, has undergone a durability test that pushed its limits to the extreme. Tech YouTuber AppleTrack’s Sam Kohl strapped the headset to his head and subjected it to a series of tests, including walking into walls and doors, dropping it from a great height, and attempting to break it with significant force. The results were both surprising and insightful, offering valuable information for potential buyers.

The test began with Kohl warning viewers about the importance of handling the headset carefully, particularly the light seal, which is easily detachable from the main device. He demonstrated how simply picking up the headset by the seal could cause it to fall to the floor, potentially leading to damage.

The main battery was then put to the test, with Kohl wearing the headset and walking into various objects for approximately 40 minutes. Despite the intense impacts, the glass front of the headset remained in excellent condition, with only minor scuffs appearing. This test was an unreal scenario, as few people would intentionally walk into walls and doors, but it was intended to simulate the effects of frequent use in various environments.

The next challenge was a drop test from head height, which also failed to cause any significant damage. However, Kohl did experience a malfunction after using the headset for the first time since the start of the test, revealing that the left speaker no longer worked. A small crack was also discovered in the band around the right hinge, about an inch back from the glass. This was an unexpected development, as one would expect the glass to be the first part to suffer damage.

Undeterred, Kohl continued to push the headset to its limits, attempting to break the glass by dropping it from an even greater height than before. The glass finally shattered, but surprisingly, the device continued to function normally. The camera operator even observed that the EyeSight feature, which has received criticism for its quality, appeared to work better without the glass.

The test did reveal some potential weaknesses, such as the magnetic connection between the light seal and the main device, which could be problematic if not handled carefully. However, the overall durability of the Vision Pro was impressive, especially considering its price point.

The Apple Vision Pro headset has undergone an extreme durability test, revealing surprising results that will likely interest potential buyers. While some aspects of the design, such as the light seal, require careful handling, the headset’s overall build quality and durability are commendable. The Vision Pro’s ability to continue functioning even after significant damage suggests that Apple has prioritized durability in its design.
