Google reveals First Public Beta of Android 15 with New Features

]The wait is finally over for Android enthusiasts as Google has released the first public beta build of Android 15. This milestone marks the end of the developer-focused test phase, and the beta version is now available for the masses to try out without worrying about too many bugs. While the first beta build doesn’t introduce a plethora of new features, it does bring some notable additions and improvements that are worth highlighting.

One of the key highlights of Android 15 is the OS-level support for app archiving. This feature allows users to safely archive an app that is no longer in active use, freeing up a significant portion of storage space while retaining only a few crucial files. When the user decides to use the app again, they can simply select “Restore” to bring the app back instead of downloading it from the Play Store.

Another notable feature is the improved communication support for Braille devices over wired and wireless connections. This is a significant addition for users with vision challenges, providing greater accessibility and independence.

Android 15 also introduces encrypted contacts, which ensures that contact information stored on the phone is protected behind a layer of end-to-end encryption at the OS level. This provides an additional layer of security and safeguarding for sensitive personal information.

In addition to these features, Android 15 offers several meaningful additions that enhance the overall user experience. The new cooldown system, for instance, silences the barrage of notifications from a single app, allowing users to focus on other tasks without being overwhelmed by constant alerts. The partial screen-sharing feature is another useful addition, allowing users to record activity within a single selected app while leaving out other activities.

The Bluetooth controls have also been streamlined and made easier to access, especially for users with multiple devices connected to their phone. This is a welcome change for users who often find themselves juggling multiple devices and connections.

For users who rely on video calls and webcams, the new HD preset is a game-changer. This feature allows the phone to double as a high-resolution meeting camera for PC, providing a significant upgrade in terms of video quality.

The PDF handling experience has also undergone significant improvements in Android 15, making it easier and more functional for users to work with PDF documents. The Do Not Disturb Mode has been enhanced with more flexibility, allowing users to tailor their notifications and distractions to their needs.

In addition to these features, Android 15 also brings some performance improvements, which should result in faster app loading times and smoother overall performance. The small cover screen on flip-style foldable phones will also support more app activities, eliminating the need for hacks and workarounds.

Google plans to release three additional beta updates between now and July, with the final Android 15 release scheduled for sometime after that. For now, Android enthusiasts can try out the first public beta build and get a taste of what’s to come in the final release.
