Ford’s full-size SUV, the Expedition, which has been in its current form since 2018 and saw a mid-cycle refresh in 2022, is set for a comprehensive overhaul in 2025. Spy photographers initially captured images of a heavily camouflaged version of the new Expedition in March, but recent sightings show the SUV with much of its camouflage removed, providing a clearer look at the refreshed design.
The 2025 Expedition will debut with several notable exterior changes. It was seen riding on 24-inch wheels for the first time in the model’s history. The front fascia has been redesigned to feature a more streamlined look, with new, sleek headlights flanking a revamped grille.
These headlights, while still wrapped by C-shaped running lights, are now split into two separate housings, a departure from the previous single-unit design.
The rear of the Expedition also boasts significant updates. The new taillights are taller and slimmer than those on the previous model, which had lights that cut sharply into the body.

A potential highlight is the split tailgate design, hinted at by a visible hard crease beneath the vehicle’s camouflage. If confirmed, this split-gate feature would align the Expedition with other luxury SUVs like the BMW X5 and Land Rover Range Rover.
Inside, the 2025 Expedition is set to impress with advanced technology, featuring a massive 48.0-inch display spanning the dashboard, similar to that found in the Lincoln Nautilus. This expansive screen is not expected to be a touchscreen; instead, it will be operated via an 11.1-inch touchscreen mounted centrally on the dashboard, adding a futuristic touch to the vehicle’s interior.
Under the hood, the Expedition is likely to continue using the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine, which produces 380 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque in its base form and 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet in the Limited trim.
Additionally, there is speculation about the introduction of a hybrid powertrain, possibly incorporating the 430-hp hybrid V-6 from the 2024 F-150. Although an official reveal date has not been announced, the new Expedition is expected to debut later this year.
