Amazon Expands Last-Mile Delivery Network to Small Businesses

Amazon has made a significant announcement by expanding its Fresh grocery delivery service to non-Prime members across the United States. This development marks a notable step forward in the company’s efforts to make grocery shopping more convenient and accessible to a wider range of customers. The service allows non-Prime members to order groceries online from various local retailers and specialty stores, in addition to Amazon Fresh stores, and receive delivery or free pickup where available. This expansion comes after the company initially started offering the service to non-Prime members in 12 cities in August.

The nationwide expansion of Fresh to non-Prime members demonstrates Amazon’s confidence in the service and its ability to appeal to a broader customer base. Non-Prime members can now access a range of delivery options, including two-hour delivery and six-hour delivery, as well as free pickup where available from Whole Foods Market. To shop online at Fresh, non-Prime members will need to pay a delivery fee, which varies based on the total order amount. The delivery fees are higher than those charged to Prime members, with non-Prime members paying $14 for orders under $50, $11 for orders between $50 and $100, and $8 for orders totaling more than $100.

Amazon’s Fresh service has been available to Prime members since its launch in 2007, and the company has since expanded the service to around 45 locations across the United States. The acquisition of Whole Foods in 2017 marked a significant milestone in Amazon’s grocery business, and the company has continued to invest heavily in the sector. The launch of Fresh has been accompanied by significant progress in recent years, with the company making strides in providing customers with a range of grocery shopping options.
