In a move that is sure to delight fans of the critically acclaimed puzzle game, Devolver Digital has announced that The Talos Principle 2 is set to receive its first expansion, Road to Elysium, on June 14 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. This new DLC is described as a three-part coda that will add even more complexity and depth to the game’s already impressive puzzle chambers, as well as delve deeper into the game’s rich storyline.
Road to Elysium is broken down into three distinct chapters, each with its own unique setting and puzzles. The first chapter, Orpheus Ascending, takes players to an Egyptian-inspired setting where they will utilize lasers to solve a series of puzzles. The second chapter, Isle of the Blessed, transported me to a tropical island where I had to solve a set of eight puzzles using familiar tools such as RGB converters and activators. The handful of problems I solved pushed my brain to its limits, requiring careful redirects of light beams and item movements around a magnetized wall.
The structure of the new islands is identical to the main game’s flow, with players solving a series of chambers, creating a bridge using tetromino pieces, and activating a lighthouse. Throughout, collectible lore pieces can be found, adding to the game’s philosophical musings. In my demo, I stumbled upon an audio recording that explored the question of whether art should have meaning, suggesting that each chapter will go into its own related philosophical debates while building on the main game’s ending and answering more questions about the mysterious Megastructure.
What’s striking about Road to Elysium is its size. Despite being a relatively short demo, it still felt like a significant chunk of content, and I would estimate that completing the entire DLC would take around five hours. This suggests that Road to Elysium will be a meaty expansion that will keep fans of the series busy with more brain-busting puzzles.
The Talos Principle 2: Road to Elysium seems like a natural extension of the game’s thoughtful and intellectually stimulating gameplay, and fans of the series are sure to be delighted by the new puzzles and story developments it brings. With its release date set for June 14, we can look forward to going back into the world of The Talos Principle 2 soon.
