Contrary to expectations, WL20S, one of the stars in the system, is not a single star at all, but rather a pair of identical twins, each surrounded by a disk and emitting jets of material parallel to each other.
The discovery was made possible by the collaboration between the James Webb Space Telescope’s Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI) and ALMA. MIRI observed the jets of material flying off from the stars, while ALMA observed the disks of material around them.
