Owners of over half a million 2014 F-150 trucks with the 6R80 automatic transmission should be aware of a safety recall recently announced by Ford. This transmission, known for its durability, is based on the ZF 6HP design and can handle substantial power.

The recall addresses a potential issue where a glitch in the signal between the transmission’s output sensor and the control module could cause the truck to unexpectedly downshift into first gear.

This sudden gear change can be dangerous, increasing the risk of losing control due to the rear wheels locking up. You might want to check your mailbox soon.

Ford is addressing a potential safety hazard with a software update for certain trucks built between June 2013 and December 2014.

This update tackles the risk of unexpected downshifts, which could lead to drivers losing control or the rear wheels locking up.

To prevent these unintended gear changes, dealerships are equipped with a software fix that recalibrates the vehicle’s computer.

While official recall letters will be mailed between July 1st and 5th, owners can get their trucks serviced beforehand.
