Warner Bros. has announced two new movie release dates, one of which is attributed to the legendary Denis Villeneuve, renowned for his visually stunning and thought-provoking films. The first release date is set for December 2026, which was initially reserved for an “Untitled Event Film” but has now been renamed as “Denis Villeneuve Event Film” in collaboration with Legendary Pictures.

The question on everyone’s mind is whether this new film will be the conclusion of Villeneuve’s Dune trilogy, which started with Dune (2021) and continued with Dune: Part Two in March. According to sources from Deadline, Warner Bros. and Legendary are expecting the December 2026 date to mark the release of Dune 3, also known as Dune: Messiah. Given the widespread critical acclaim and commercial success of Dune: Part Two, which grossed $711 million worldwide, fans are eagerly anticipating the final chapter of Villeneuve’s ambitious project.

However, Villeneuve has expressed his desire to work on other projects before concluding the Dune trilogy, citing a need to take a break from the complex and demanding task of revisiting the world of Arrakis, the central setting of his sci-fi epic. In a profile with The Hollywood Reporter in March, Villeneuve revealed that he has four projects on the table, one of which is a “secret project” that requires his immediate attention. Before going on Dune: Messiah, he plans to complete another project between now and then.

One potential candidate for this interim project is Nuclear War: A Scenario, a film based on Annie Jacobsen’s nonfiction book of the same name. This project, which explores the threat of nuclear war, might absorb Villeneuve’s attention before he returns to the world of Dune. According to Deadline, Villeneuve will likely complete Dune: Messiah before starting work on Nuclear War: A Scenario.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. has also announced a release date for the next Godzilla and Kong movie, scheduled to hit theaters on March 26, 2027. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the fifth installment in the MonsterVerse, has exceeded expectations with its impressive $80 million domestic opening weekend and worldwide gross of $570 million against a budget of $135 million to $150 million.

The concurrent announcements of these two highly anticipated films signal Warner Bros.’ commitment to delivering thrilling content to its audience, and fans can eagerly anticipate the cinematic experiences these projects will bring.
