The annual QuakeCon event, organized by id Software, kicked off in Dallas with the launch of enhanced versions of the classic games Doom and Doom II. These legendary shooters have been revamped with technical improvements and expanded content, showcasing the continued popularity and relevance of these iconic titles in the gaming community.
The enhanced editions of Doom and Doom II are now available for purchase on major digital storefronts like Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store, priced at $10 for the bundle. Gamers who already own either game can upgrade to the new versions at no extra cost, ensuring that long-time fans can enjoy the latest updates without having to repurchase the games.
The improvements include upgraded visuals with support for 4K resolution and up to 120 frames per second, providing a smoother and more visually appealing experience. Additionally, the games now feature cross-play multiplayer, allowing players on different platforms, such as PC, Xbox, and PlayStation, to compete against each other, enhancing the community aspect of the game.
New content has also been added, including additional deathmatch maps, an expanded co-op mode that supports up to 16 players, and mod support for creating custom content. Furthermore, the games introduce new story chapters and a special episode called Sigil, developed by John Romero, which fits into the timeline between Doom and Doom II, adding depth to the game’s lore.
These upgraded versions were released on August 8, 2024, across multiple platforms, including PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. As the new versions become available, the previous editions will be phased out, making this the definitive way to experience Doom and Doom II with all their new enhancements and content.
