The beta for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has commenced, allowing players to experience new movement mechanics before the official release on October 25. Currently, a closed beta is available for those who pre-ordered the game, while an open beta will take place from September 6 to September 9. The game’s new Omni-movement system introduces more acrobatic capabilities, including diving, sliding, and rotating, enhancing gameplay fluidity and player options.

Early feedback from players has been positive but acknowledges a learning curve with the Omni-movement. While some players quickly adapt to the new mechanics and use them effectively in combat, others, including the reviewer, are still mastering these skills. To help players get up to speed, Treyarch has included a tutorial in the beta focusing on the new movement options.

The multiplayer beta features maps like Derelict, set in a trainyard, and Skyline, located in a luxury home. Popular game modes such as Hardpoint, Domination, and Team Deathmatch are available, providing a range of combat experiences. The reviewer’s early impressions of the gameplay highlight a mix of satisfaction and challenge, particularly in adapting to the new movement system.

In an interview, Miles Leslie, Associate Creative Director at Treyarch, shared that the reaction to Black Ops 6 has been overwhelmingly positive. The studio is energized by the feedback and is eager for the broader public to experience the game during the open beta. Leslie emphasized the studio’s commitment to innovative movement mechanics and ensuring they complement both skilled and new players.

Leslie discussed the Omni-movement system, noting that it aims to enhance player agency rather than simply benefiting the best players. The system allows for more dynamic movement, combining elements like sliding and diving in a seamless manner. This development is rooted in feedback from past Black Ops titles and aims to provide a more immersive and engaging experience.

The interview also touched on the technical aspects of the movement system, including the ability to perform complex maneuvers like rotating 360 degrees while prone. Leslie explained how these features were designed to feel natural and immersive, despite the inherent differences between game mechanics and real-life movements.

Regarding overall realism in gameplay, Leslie acknowledged that while some movements might not mimic real-world behavior perfectly, the goal was to balance realism with fun. The Omni-movement system is designed to allow players to create dramatic, action-hero moments, enhancing the excitement of gameplay.

Leslie also highlighted the positive reception of new camos and prestige icons, which reflect the game’s history and contribute to its aesthetic appeal. The team’s attention to detail in these elements has been well-received, adding to the game’s visual and thematic richness.

The Gunsmith system has been streamlined to balance accessibility with depth. While the interface has been simplified to avoid overwhelming new players, it still offers detailed customization options for seasoned players. The unified loadout system ensures that modifications to weapons apply universally across different game modes.

Looking forward, Leslie mentioned that the game will include 16 original multiplayer maps at launch, along with a mix of original and remastered maps post-launch. The variety of maps and their design reflect the game’s global setting and historical era, aiming to provide a diverse and engaging experience.

In terms of Zombies mode, Black Ops 6 will feature two distinct maps, each designed to offer unique challenges and experiences. The focus on delivering a balanced and engaging co-op experience reflects the studio’s commitment to evolving the Zombies gameplay while responding to community feedback.

Overall, Leslie is excited for players to experience the new features and provide feedback during the open beta. The studio hopes that the innovative mechanics and extensive content will be well-received, making Black Ops 6 a standout entry in the series.
