Baldur’s Gate III, a wildly popular turn-based RPG, has continued to thrive since its release, consistently maintaining a large player base. Even during work hours, the game boasts over 70,000 concurrent players on Steam. The game’s latest update is particularly exciting as it introduces native support for game mods, enabling players to download and install modifications directly within the game, without needing external tools.

While modding in Baldur’s Gate III is not new, having been available since its early access phase, this new update simplifies the process. Previously, players needed to use third-party tools like Nexus Mod Manager, but the new in-game mod manager eliminates that requirement. This streamlined system makes it more accessible for players to explore and personalize their gameplay experience.

Larian Studios, the game’s developer, has ensured compatibility with existing modding tools, like Script Extender so that popular mods will continue to work seamlessly with the new system. As the game updates, mods will automatically appear in the in-game Mod Manager, allowing players to easily manage their installations. This functionality mirrors systems like Steam Workshop but is entirely managed by Larian’s own system, independent of Steam.

Additionally, Larian has provided a modding toolkit that allows creators to craft new content for the game, including spells, classes, weapons, and even visual changes like customizing the in-game dice. While the game uses the Dungeons & Dragons system, the modding tools allow players to expand the game’s content beyond what Larian could include, adding more depth and variety to the D&D-based world of the game.

Alongside modding, the patch brings new gameplay features like alternate endings, additional animations for evil playthroughs, and tougher boss encounters in the Honour Mode difficulty. Though the game is largely feature-complete, Larian continues to work on new content, such as a photo mode and cross-platform multiplayer, showing ongoing support for the game’s vibrant community.
