8BitDo has introduced a new $26 solderless mod kit designed to upgrade your old GameCube controller into a modern wireless Bluetooth device. This kit makes it possible to use the GameCube controller with the Nintendo Switch and Android devices.
It also retains compatibility with the original GameCube system, although this requires an additional $26 Retro Receiver. The mod kit features Hall Effect joysticks, a trigger pack, and a rechargeable 300mAh battery, which 8BitDo claims provides approximately 6 hours of gameplay. Pre-orders for the mod kit are currently available and it is scheduled to ship on September 25.
The 8BitDo Mod Kit allows users to convert their original wired GameCube controller into a wireless Bluetooth controller. This transformation enables seamless wireless functionality with both the Nintendo Switch and Android devices. The kit includes advanced components such as Hall Effect joysticks and a trigger pack, which enhance the controller’s performance and provide a more modern gaming experience.
While there are various adapters available that allow the original GameCube controller to connect to the Switch, including 8BitDo’s own GBros. adapter and an official Nintendo adapter, the new mod kit offers a more integrated solution. By eliminating the need for an external adapter, the mod kit simplifies the connection process and provides true wireless Bluetooth capabilities.
To use the mod kit, users need to open their GameCube controller and replace the existing PCB with the new one included in the kit. This straightforward modification ensures that the controller gains Bluetooth functionality without the hassle of additional adapters or complex setup processes.
