Oura has introduced its latest model, the Oura Ring 4, priced at $349, which features substantial upgrades in accuracy, comfort, and functionality compared to the previous version. While the design may initially appear similar, this new iteration is now constructed entirely from titanium, moving away from the epoxy interior of its predecessor.
This material change signifies a commitment to enhancing both the durability and performance of the smart ring.
A major focus of the Oura Ring 4 is its revamped sensor technology. The earlier model had protruding sensor domes, but these have been replaced with sleek, recessed components that enhance both aesthetics and user comfort.
Additionally, Oura has significantly upgraded its “Smart Sensing” algorithms, allowing the ring to adapt better to the unique shapes of users’ fingers. This enhancement has increased the number of signal pathways from 8 to 18, ensuring the device can maintain a stronger connection and achieve higher precision in tracking data.
According to Oura, these improvements result in an impressive 120 percent increase in overall signal quality compared to the previous version. The accuracy of blood oxygen sensing has risen by 30 percent, and heart rate monitoring gaps have decreased by 31 percent overnight and by 7 percent during the day.
If these claims hold true in practical use, they reflect significant advancements in the ring’s monitoring capabilities, enhancing its appeal to health-conscious consumers.
The Ring 4 also expands its size options, now available in sizes ranging from 4 to 15, compared to the previous range of 6 to 13. This broader selection allows more users to find a comfortable fit.
In addition, the Oura app has undergone a redesign, featuring a streamlined layout with three main sections: Today, which summarizes biometrics; Vitals, focusing on health metrics; and My Health, which provides insights into long-term health data. This new design makes the app more user-friendly and easier to navigate.
Launching on October 15, the Oura Ring 4 will be available in six color options: gold, rose gold, brushed silver, stealth, black, and silver, representing a $50 increase over its predecessor.
The older Gen3 models will still be available at a reduced price until stocks run out, and existing users will continue to pay the same subscription fees of $5.99 monthly or $69.99 annually. The Oura Ring 4 marks a significant advancement in smart ring technology, emphasizing enhanced accuracy, comfort, and an improved user experience.
