Remedy Entertainment has officially announced its first multiplayer game, titled FBC: Firebreak, which takes players back to the Federal Bureau of Control in 2025. The announcement was made during the Xbox Partner Preview event at the end of October, where the game was showcased as a standalone experience rather than a sequel to Control.
This cooperative game features three-player, PvE mechanics, inviting players to team up as they face the chaos of the Hiss outbreak while trapped within the Bureau.
In FBC: Firebreak, players take on the roles of ordinary individuals equipped with heavy weaponry, improvised armor, and gear to combat the terrifying Hiss and other threats. The game aims to provide an accessible entry point for players, allowing newcomers to engage with the experience without needing prior knowledge of Control.
According to communications director Thomas Puha, the game is designed for fun co-op missions that showcase the distinctive creativity associated with Remedy’s titles.
Despite being independent of the Control storyline, FBC: Firebreak enriches the existing lore and world of the series. Game director Mike Kayatta emphasized that the game is crafted to be a meaningful part of the Control narrative, despite its different structure.
Players will have the opportunity to explore more of the Federal Bureau of Control and its iconic Oldest House while encountering various peculiarities and characters from the established universe.
The Xbox Partner Preview event also highlighted additional content from Remedy, including the first gameplay footage of Alan Wake 2’s The Lake House expansion, set within an FBC research station.
This expansion integrates seamlessly into Alan Wake 2 and features new gameplay elements such as a new playable character, enemies, and weapons. This focus on interconnected experiences reflects Remedy’s commitment to expanding its universe through multiple titles.
Looking ahead, Remedy is dedicated to developing more games set within the Control universe, having already announced two sequels: Heron and Condor.
Heron is described as a larger-scale game likely following the main storyline, while Condor serves as a spin-off. Although FBC: Firebreak could have fit into this lineup, it was in the proof-of-concept stage in 2022, hinting at the possibility of even more new titles on the horizon for fans to anticipate.
