Montreal-based startup Storycraft has secured a $3 million seed round to support the development and global launch of its multiplayer mobile game platform. The funding, led by Khosla Ventures, follows a previous $2 million pre-seed round backed by London Venture Partners (LVP) and Signalfire.
Designed to blend AI tools with community-driven storytelling, Storycraft aims to create a platform where players can build and share interactive story worlds. The game is hosted on Google Cloud and is gearing up for a multiplatform global launch, with this fresh capital supporting further product development and team growth.
Storycraft Combines AI, Social Gameplay, and UGC to Ignite Players’ Creative Storytelling
Storycraft was founded by Andy Mauro, a veteran in applied AI, previously known for his work on Nuance’s Nina and the product recommendation chatbot Automat. Mauro envisions Storycraft as the “Minecraft of storytelling,” a game where anyone can create and live out richly imagined worlds using the power of AI.
According to Mauro, the platform is reigniting players’ creativity, with users reporting emotional and therapeutic benefits such as overcoming writer’s block, reducing anxiety, and rediscovering artistic passions. The low-pressure, game-based environment allows users to explore creativity in new and personal ways.

At its core, Storycraft combines AI-generated worldbuilding, social gameplay, and a UGC (user-generated content)-driven economy. Players use generative AI tools to craft everything from characters and items to weather effects. These creations are then shared across a multiverse where AI and human characters coexist.
The social gameplay mechanics encourage players to visit and contribute to each other’s worlds, fostering a sense of community. Every element of the game is built by players, creating an ever-expanding universe of unique and deeply personal stories.
Emotional Storytelling and AI Empower Players to Create and Share Unique Narratives
Mauro emphasized that the game fosters emotional storytelling, enabling players to express themselves in new, low-stakes ways. The AI acts not just as a tool, but as a creative partner, collaborating with players to enhance their narratives. Whether the stories are whimsical, dramatic, or deeply personal, the platform offers a stage for each tale to unfold.
Since the launch of its open alpha, users have built thousands of original worlds and hundreds of thousands of unique AI-generated assets, spanning genres like fantasy, horror, sci-fi, and romance—many of which are wholly original, not based on existing IP.
With the new funding, Storycraft is preparing for a public beta launch later this year. The investment will be used to expand the team and refine the platform for a broader audience. According to Vinod Khosla, founder of Khosla Ventures, the platform exemplifies how AI enables anyone to be both a creator and consumer.
As Storycraft continues to grow, it aims to establish a new genre of social storytelling games, where immersive worldbuilding and collaborative creativity take center stage, reshaping how stories are made, shared, and experienced.
