This feature is set to roll out in 15 cities later this week, including Amsterdam, Barcelona, and San Francisco, with more cities planned to be added over time. The update also includes the launch of Lens in Maps, a more advanced version of the existing Search with Live View feature. By selecting the Lens icon in the search bar and raising their handset, users can gain information about amenities such as ATMs, transit stations, restaurants, coffee shops, and stores.

Electric-vehicle drivers will now have access to comprehensive information about charging stations, including compatibility and charging speeds. Furthermore, the Maps search function is getting a significant upgrade, with users now able to search for specific things like “animal latte art” or “pumpkin patch with my dog” and receive photo-first results based on the analysis of billions of photos shared by the Google Maps community. These photo-first results are powered by AI and advanced image recognition models, allowing users to discover new spots that match exactly what they’re looking for.
