Hisense CanvasTV: A Rival to Samsung’s The Frame TV

Hisense CanvasTV

Hisense has been making waves at CES 2024 by showcasing its massive mini-LED TVs, but the company also took time to introduce its new CanvasTV, a unique offering that rivals Samsung’s popular The Frame TV. The CanvasTV allows users to display high-resolution art on their TVs when not in use for watching content, giving it a unique selling point in the market.

Initially, Hisense will launch the CanvasTV in two sizes: 55- and 65-inches. The TVs will be available this summer, with prices starting at $999 for the smaller model, although the larger 65-inch model’s price is yet to be announced.

One of the key features of the CanvasTV is its interchangeable frames, similar to The Frame TV. Users can choose from preloaded art in various styles, upload their own photos, and even select between portrait and terrain orientations. The frames are designed to slide onto the TV and are held in place by magnets. The TV comes with a teak-look frame, but users can also purchase white and black frames.

The CanvasTV is designed to be flush-mounted to walls, making installation a breeze with the included wall mount. Hisense hasn’t confirmed whether an optional stand will be available for those who don’t want to wall-mount their TV.

In terms of tech specs, the CanvasTV features a 4K QLED panel, which can deliver over a billion shades of color. The TV also boasts a “Hi-Matte” anti-glare layer, designed to reduce glare even in brightly lit rooms. The panel has a 144Hz refresh rate, with auto low-latency mode, variable refresh rate, and motion estimation and motion compensation technology for smooth and seamless visuals.

The TV also includes an ambient light sensor to automatically adjust to changing room conditions and a motion sensor that will turn off the TV when it senses no one is in the room. The user experience is powered by Google TV, offering access to thousands of apps, hundreds of free streaming channels, and Chromecast built-in.

In addition, the CanvasTV comes with a multi-channel 2.0.2 surround sound system, although it’s unclear whether it will support immersive audio formats like Dolby Atmos.

The Hisense CanvasTV appears to offer a unique blend of style, art, and technology, giving it a competitive edge in the market. With its affordable prices, feature-rich design, and sleek aesthetics, the CanvasTV is definitely worth considering for those in the market for a new TV that offers something different from the usual offerings.
