Apple is expected to release the iPhone 17 Air later this year, a model set to be the thinnest iPhone yet. Leaks have suggested that this phone could be slimmer than the 6.9mm iPhone 6, marking a major design shift. Recent rumors and leaks have provided a more detailed idea of what to expect from this upcoming device, leaving tech enthusiasts excited for the new release.
Dimensions and Display Size
Rumors about the iPhone 17 Air’s dimensions have evolved over the last few months. Leaker Ice Universe recently shared that the phone will be just 5.5mm thick, a claim that aligns with predictions from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. On the other hand, Jeff Pu predicted the thickness would be around 6mm.
In terms of screen size, Ice Universe has stated that the iPhone 17 Air will have a 6.9-inch display, similar to the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Both models are expected to have the same length, width, and bezel as the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

On March 7, 2025, Ice Universe posted a render of the iPhone 17 Air, drawing attention to its sleek and slim design. Additionally, YouTuber iDeviceHelp, in collaboration with leaker Majin Bu, shared a video featuring mockups of the iPhone 17 Air, Pro Max, and standard models.
These mockups, based on internal documents, offer a closer look at the device’s slim profile. The video also highlights how the phone’s thin edge resembles that of the 13-inch M4 iPad Pro, currently Apple’s thinnest device, suggesting a similar design philosophy for the iPhone 17 Air.
Camera Design and New Features
A key design element in the leaked mockups of the iPhone 17 Air is the horizontally placed camera bar on the back, similar to the design seen on Google Pixel devices. It remains unclear whether this bar will serve a functional role or if it’s simply a new aesthetic choice by Apple. However, this design could help with the common issue of iPhones wobbling when placed flat. While the camera bar may provide some stabilization, the rear cameras still protrude, so it may not completely solve this issue.
In terms of overall design, the iPhone 17 Air appears to follow Apple’s familiar layout, with buttons in the same positions as on previous models. The phone is also expected to include a USB-C port, speaker holes at the bottom, and a Dynamic Island along with Face ID on the front. While the leaked renders offer a good idea of what the iPhone 17 Air might look like, it will be in September when Apple officially reveals the full details of the phone’s design and features.
