Diamond Shruumz Initiates Nationwide Recall Amidst Health Concerns

Diamond Shruumz, a popular brand of microdosing chocolates, gummies, and candy cones, has initiated a nationwide recall following widespread reports of severe illnesses. The recall, encompassing all products and flavors, comes in response to a significant number of cases involving symptoms such as seizures, loss of consciousness, and the need for intensive medical care.

According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 39 individuals have fallen ill across 20 states, resulting in 23 hospitalizations.

Prophet Premium Blends, the parent company of Diamond Shruumz, acknowledged the recall after identifying “higher than normal” levels of muscimol in their products through laboratory analyses.

Muscimol is a psychoactive compound found in hallucinogenic Amanita mushrooms and is suspected to contribute to the observed symptoms among consumers. The company stated that it had received only two complaints prior to issuing the recall, prompting a halt in production and distribution while investigations continue.

Concerns about product safety were raised earlier when the FDA initially linked Diamond Shruumz’s chocolate bars to illnesses in multiple states. Despite third-party lab reports indicating generally low levels of muscimol across various products, the exact normal threshold remains unspecified.

This ambiguity complicates understanding the potential health risks associated with these products, which are marketed for their purported nootropic and functional mushroom blends.

In addition to muscimol, previous findings by the FDA included undisclosed psychedelic compounds and potentially toxic substances like those found in Kava plants.

These discoveries underscore broader concerns about the transparency and safety of ingredients in such edibles, which are often marketed with terms like “microdosing” and “functional mushrooms.” The CDC advises caution regarding these products due to the possibility of undisclosed substances or contaminants that could pose health risks.

Consumers who have purchased Diamond Shruumz products are urged not to consume them and to return them for a full refund. The recall represents a proactive step by the company and regulatory authorities to mitigate further health impacts as investigations into the exact causes of the illnesses continue.
