The Elder Scrolls 6: What We Know So Far About Bethesda’s Next Epic RPG

A still from The Elder Scrolls 6

The Elder Scrolls 6 has been shrouded in mystery since its initial announcement five years ago, leaving fans eagerly anticipating concrete news on the title. Bethesda, the studio behind the fantasy RPG series, has been focused on the development of Starfield, their new IP, and it’s only now that The Elder Scrolls 6 is entering early development. The game has been touted as a massive, open-world experience building on the success of its predecessors, including the critically acclaimed Skyrim and online multiplayer game, The Elder Scrolls Online.

Release Date Speculation

While there is no official release date yet, fans can expect The Elder Scrolls 6 to be several years away from launch. In an interview, Bethesda’s head of publishing, Pete Hines, confirmed that the game is in early development and will not have a significant update for the time being. Given the development timeline of Starfield, it’s likely that The Elder Scrolls 6 won’t be approaching launch for another four or five years.

Platforms

The absence of concrete release date information has led to speculation about the game’s exclusivity. With Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda, there is a possibility that The Elder Scrolls 6 could be exclusive to Xbox consoles and PC, leaving PS5 users to either switch platforms or miss out on the new RPG. However, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has stated that exclusivity will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and it’s unclear what platforms the game will be available on when it launches.

Trailer

The only information we have on the game’s trailer is a brief 30-second announcement teaser shown at E3 2018. The teaser shows an boostd landmass filled with large rocks, sparking theories about the potential locations in the Elder Scrolls universe. Fans have already predicted that the game could be set in Hammerfell or High Rock, although Bethesda executive Todd Howard has hinted that some aspects of the trailer may not be in line with the region.

Gameplay

While gameplay details are scarce, fans can expect The Elder Scrolls 6 to maintain the same core mechanics as previous games in the series. Players will likely create their characters, control them from a first- or third-person perspective, and engage in a variety of combat styles. The game will likely feature a new set of skills and leveling system, building on the solid foundation of the previous games.

Multiplayer

Unlike other Elder Scrolls games, The Elder Scrolls 6 is expected to be a single-player only experience. This allows for a more immersive and focused story-driven experience, which has become a hallmark of Bethesda’s single-player RPGs.

DLC

Fans can be assured that The Elder Scrolls 6 will have DLC packs to extend the game’s replay value. Bethesda has a track record of supporting their single-player RPGs with larger and more numerous DLC packs, adding new areas, skills, classes, enemies, stories, and side quests.

The Elder Scrolls 6 is a highly anticipated game that has been years in the making. While there is still much to be revealed, fans can expect a massive open-world experience building on the success of its predecessors. With its uncertain release date and potential exclusivity to Xbox consoles and PC, The Elder Scrolls 6 is a game worth keeping an eye on. As more information becomes available, fans will eagerly await the opportunity to dive back into the Elder Scrolls universe.
