Nothing has announced a hardware update for its Phone 2a smartphone with the release of the Phone 2a Plus. This new model is a modest upgrade from the original Phone 2a, which was launched in March. The update brings some notable improvements, even though the core features remain largely the same.

The most significant change in the Phone 2a Plus is the upgraded chip. The original Phone 2a used a Mediatek Dimensity 7200 Pro chip with a maximum clock speed of 2.8GHz. The 2a Plus features a Mediatek Dimensity 7350 Pro chip that can reach up to 3.0GHz. Additionally, the new model supports faster wired charging at 50W, compared to the 45W charging capability of the original.

Aside from the upgraded chip and charging speed, the Phone 2a Plus retains the same camera system, battery, display, and overall design as the original 2a. This consistency in features is not seen as a drawback, as the Phone 2a received positive reviews for being a budget phone with a unique personality.

However, there are some limitations for US customers. The Phone 2a Plus will be available through Nothing’s beta program, but only in the gray color option. Moreover, it lacks full 5G connectivity with major US carriers like AT&T and Verizon. This could be a significant drawback for some users.

The Phone 2a Plus is priced at $400, which includes 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Nothing Beta members can order the phone starting August 3, with UK residents also able to purchase it directly on the same day.

Further details on global availability will be provided in September. Additionally, the company announced updates for the upcoming Nothing OS 2.6, including a new Game Dashboard and enhanced notification-blocking features.
